We're back from a 3 day old Denial of Service attack towards the shared server that we're hosted on...

This attack not only blew away other users on our shared host, the datacenter also pulled the plug for it and thus disturbed quite a lot of sites...

For those of you who are unfamilliar with Denial of Service attacks, quite simply put, someone didn't like a site on this server so they sent a lot of traffic from numerous (generally hacked) servers to occupy the server and waste bandwidth.

But, we're back now, I appologize for the downtime, but it's great to be back :)

As you've no-doubt noticed, we haven't had any updates this month, there's a very good reason for this... I've got the flu :(... I've been sick most of the month but I'm starting to feel better finally...

I'll have the screenshots up of the compensation and festival items as soon as I can, I appologize for the wait but it's taken much longer for me to get to feeling well...

Well the file system update should be done; this was mainly backend work so you shouldn't see anything because of it (unless the page doens't work, then you really won't see anything).

I think I got everything updated, the main reason for this update was because of all of the updates, I'm not sure what all hasn't been updated yet; so this update makes it easier for me to pinpoint what needs worked on.

I'm going to be doing some file structure updates tonight for the next hour; if you see anything out of the ordinary after 3am PST (6am EST) please email me through the "Contact" page and let me know about it.
Posted By Gremelin Posted on September 29th, 2006
I've updated the spell system to display locations you can find "rare" spells, I hope this will aid users who like to bash in certain areas for spells :).

I've added the best that I could, if you have any that I missed, please let me know :).

The news page has been fixed, I've had to completely rework my page creation script and it seems to be working properly now (after a wee bit of erroring).

Just a few small updates to report today...

We recieved a sugguestion to have the cave listing page link to the cave maps for the cave; giving some thought to the request I decided to take it a step farther...

If a link exists the cave listing will display the cave name as a link; these links can vary by:
1. If there is a map for the cave it'll be displayed as the link -unless-
2. If there is a cave run for the cave it'll be displayed as the link

If a link exists in the database for both, it'll display the link as the cave run...

The cave run's page has also been adapted to display a link to the cave map (should one exist).

Thanks for your sugguestions, I value them all :)..

Well, other than the fact the page listing on the news pages doesn't function properly, I have just about everything else fixed and moved over (in fact, I'm using the new system to make this post now)...

Its working well and easier to move around, allbeit I'm putting off other sections to work on this for the time being ;)...

I'll be working on the armor and helms pages next, which is what i've been putting off (well, the beastiary too, but that has its own cause of why i'm putting it off)... The Armor and Helms pages should (should mind you) be up by the end of this week, at least the user-end of things (admin end of a lot of pages is being put off until the public portions of the entire site are done).

Well I did some work on the new News system and it's getting better, I've released it for the most part but it has some bugs...

The main bug is that it'll always show too many pages, I'm well aware and I'm trying to find out what the issue is...

Unfortunately it's quite late and I've been up for a very long time, so I'm going to have to leave it released but non-complete for the time being...

I know that I said that I was going to put it off for a while, but I needed a project to test out basic pagination (and code for it) so I went ahead and updated the guestbook to its new systems...

You'll find that it looks MUCH better than how it was previously, additionally it worksfaster as well.

Nothing more to post about tonight...

As a part of our site overhaul we've reworked the main page... It's been heavily modified from its former glory and been condensed down to its current state.

While keeping the same set of information and being scaled down, we'll allow the site to have a more clean look and more user friendly.

Well, it'd seem that we're about half way through all of our glorious updates lol... All of the right side content (with the exception of the Helms, armor, storyline pages (well, and credits and wishlist but those are last) have been updated... I'm going to try and get them done by this weekend and start on more work with the left set of data.

I made the mistake of purging the weapons database instead of the hunting database, but luckily I have local copies in the office which are just a couple of days old ;)...

Well, the new articles system is finally in place, you'll find that the categorization of items makes them much easier to find what you're looking for (rather than to be bombaurded with every article we have).

No more updates tonight though, I'll be sure to get some work done this weekend though (well, my weekend being Thursday/Friday).

I got slightly bored tonight and made an update to the colorsheme... Based on the url you use to access this site, you'll be presented with one of two color schemes...

RealmHQ.com - Classic Blues
RealmJourney.com - Maroons

I wanted to have some way to adjust things on the fly and figured since I was making some updates for myself that I may as well make some slight adaptions for incoming users.

I hope you enjoy :).

I neglected to update all of the gallery links when we moved over to the new system the other day, these have all been fixed as of about 10 minutes ago...

Additionally, I've also updated the Cave Runs page.
Posted By Gremelin Posted on September 5th, 2006
The weapons guide has been updated to a new system, again the update is generally backend related, but it counts towards the changelog.

If you see some data that isn't correct, or have something to be added, please feel free to let me know.

I know that I don't have the new sword, axe, or club in, so if you have the basic/raw stats I'd love to hear them.

I'm giving thought to creating my own news system and migrating all of the old news data over, but I'm going to put it off until I get a lot of the site updates completed (lots of static pages which need databasing, then updated, big projects).

After I get the majority of the large pages done I'm going to make an attempt to work on some Storyline related sections; assuming that I can find the information to put in one (as I don't follow one lick of the storyline).

If you'd like to contribute information or be a staff member, let me know, we can always use the assistance :).

I've done some heavy updates to the Spells Listing System over the weekend, it took longer than expected due to all of the data entry into the database, but it's all up and running now.

Portions look the same but I've taken a lot time thinking about requests through feedback and tailored the system for several aspects...

Specifics:
1. Ability to list WHERE items can be found, should they require being found (by hovering over the name of the item; if instructions are provided a popup will show places).
2. Listing of IF they item is rare.
3. Listing of IF the item requires being found.
4. Databasing to ensure easier updates.

Connections to RealmJourney.com today will be spuratic as we await our DNS updates to be processed; we hope ot have this done tongiht.

We're setting up RealmJourney.com to utilize the site content vs forward to RealmHQ.com, as it was the original goal after we registered the domain.

Also, there have been some questions about the legality of our registering the domain... I would like to state for the record that it is completely legal to register a domain which has expired, domain owners are emailed in advance by their registry about their domain registration coming up for renewal. If they choose to ignore these emails and not renew the domain it will expire and they will loose all ownership and access to the domain.

I've gone ahead and pushed through the updates early on the following pages:
1. Command Listing
2. Cave Listing
3. Incantations Listing
4. Alignment Listing

I'll have a few more for the weekend, enjoy the updates :).

It's no suprise to the Realm community that RealmJourney has been down for a while now, there is a very good reason for this and that is becasue the domain registration had expired.

We've purchased the now un-registered domain RealmJourney.com to be a secondary domain for RealmHQ.com. You'll be able to access RealmHQ.com from both the primary and the new RealmJourney.com domains.

I've been quite busy updating the site lately so I haven't had the time to update DNS records, but they got updated last night and seem to be resolving today.
